Tutorials can often be your greatest source of inspiration when trying to design that project you have been putting off. In this post, I have rounded up a collection of very useful tutorials from around the web from the month of February. You’ll find everything from a stunning retro futuristic typography, to designing a brilliant product advertisement. So what are you waiting for…why not try one out?

I have been developing websites for more than 10 years. Nothing much has changed as far as the DIY sites are concerned. One of the worst ever offenders was Frontpage. I could smell a Frontpage website before I even landed on it. Thankfully, most of those are gone.

I don't build anymore in the conventional sense of coding the entire site. There are several good ways to have an excellent site using open source - Joomla, Wordpress and Drupal for example.

I have just finished a series for beginners - how to build a blog or CMS site from start to finish.

What most people don't realize is, it does take expertise, both as a coder and a designer to build a professional website, even using CMS software. It still has to be hacked for customization.

Bottom line, I agree with you. Packaged sites tend to lack that pro touch that is so important for all the things you mentioned.

Thanks for highlighting reasons to steer clear of DIY design, Michelle, as well as recommendations for finding affordable professional services.

Loved checking my site with the validation tools you've provided! A couple of errors found in markup validation, the explanations of which are indecipherable to me: your examination would be most helpful!
