While walking through the park today with my dog, I came across some youths spraying graffiti on the park wall. It looked like a load of rubbish to me but it did get my brain ticking when I started to ask myself when does graffiti become a piece of art, or at least more towards a piece of art. So this evening I have searched the web for some interesting and beautiful looking graffiti.

graffiti is a way for people to change something normal into something that is completely different but the same making it interesting. It is also the way some people express their art but in their style.

graffiti is great when it is done well like all of theese 10. Banksy is also a great graffiti artist. he turns stuff on the wall that is already there in to art like cracks. he also turns orrdinary into the unordinary

IT IS A GOOD DRAWING AND ART
I always considered graffiti as an art (did quite a bit when I was in my teen years)however i NEVER APPROVED graffiti on the nice old buildings built century or two ago. Those buildings are pieces of art for themselves….

Graffiti art is quite amazing and inspirational to me. I also have contradicting feelings about graffiti such as some of its negative associations and references to gangs, crime, drugs, violence, sexism, etc. Most graffiti is art from the heart. It’s expressing a life story to the world. A bold broadcast the masses can see and experience. From the choice of color, most of the meanings and creative execution I am impressed. I just wish more collaboration and understanding existed with the execution of this art. Some may think my house should be blue, but I get to make this call even if another artist thinks otherwise… people should have protection of their property as well as expression. I hope one day we find this happy medium.
While I agree that graffiti is an amazing art form, I think that the content is purely in the mind of the creator, even if graffiti expresses something that you find offending. Crime, drugs, violence and sexism are very real parts of many people’s everyday lives, graffiti is how people express themselves, graffiti is not and never will be just the color you paint your house.
“Art becomes art when elicits an aesthetic response!!” Graffiti does just that.
I think it’s the mystique of this art form that it the most intriguing to me. Here you have some of the most talented individuals on the planet expressing themselves in the cover of anonymity,
And not to glorify it but ….it’s like a being a superhero. The temptation of divulging your identity is overwhelming as fame and recognition could have rewarding repercussions to the artist’s career. Unfortunately, many still see this art form as mere “street art” found only in dilapidated regions and now, at the same time, are finding the influences of graffiti in advertisement for some of the largest companies in the world.
Graffiti is now being widely recognized by the art world as some artifacts have been literally torn from their places of origin, hung in some of the most prominent galleries and museums and sold for millions. While the recognition does my heart good, the art form still suffers the ignorance of laypeople that only see it as a nuisance.
