Favicons have already been seen to boost branding for many respectable businesses worldwide. It now seems that across Europe Google has been testing the use of favicons in adwords ads. The following screenshot was taken by Search Engine Roundtable and from this you will be able to spot that the two bottom listings have favicons on the left of their PPC ads.
It seems that the favicons displaying throughout some of the listings shown here are from the favicon.ico file from each respective site.
It will be very interesting to watch and learn about the results from this testing. Google might have just added a whole new value to any business including a favicon on their company website. Having a favicon display next to your PPC ads could give you a more competitive edge and boost your conversion rate rapidly. The whole idea seems to still be very new so we can only guess what sort of results could come from such feature. Even if it does not boost an advertisers conversion rate, it is quite safe to say that it will give them extra branding power by having a favicon displaying by the side of their PPC ads.
Maybe larger brands will see a boost in conversion rates because their favicon will attract searchers to their recognisable brand straight away. For now it is all just guess work as Google are quite obviously only testing this idea, but it will be very interesting to watch it develop and evolve.

We use a favicon on our website and believe it is just a nice finishing touch to a good design. It would be cool to then see the design of our own sites favicon on places such as Google next to our PPC ads.
